Practice

“One should not pursue goals that are easily achieved.  One must develop an instinct for what one can barely achieve through one’s greatest efforts.”

                                                                -Albert Einstein

The Jr. Cougars Coaching Staff believes that anyone of any size can succeed in the sport of wrestling.  Our philosophy is based on a foundation of hard work, steady focus, and positivity.  Our goal is to help our young athletes achieve huge gains, both on and off the mat. We encourage our wrestlers to maintain a consistent commitment to hard work, good practice habits, proper nutrition, proper hygiene, and a willingness to push one’s limits to gain the most from the sport.

Our Intro to Wrestling members will get a taste of the sport and have an opportunity to challenge themselves. They will learn: proper technique, stance/position, takedowns, escapes, riding and pinning, as well as strength and conditioning.

Our more experienced wrestlers will continue to practice proper technique and expand their knowledge of the sport. They will challenge their mental toughness, by learning to stay tenaciously committed to their goals and standards even in the face of adversity or disappointment. Along with more advanced technique, match strategy, and more involved strength and conditioning, these wrestlers are encouraged to confront and overcome challenges where many others would simply fold.

No one reaches their highest potential without abundant self-belief. The root of our coaching philosophy is that Self-Belief arises from proper physical and mental preparation along with consistent support, encouragement and positivity.  Wrestlers who remain committed to high standards of preparation know that they are ready to perform to the best of their abilities.

Tournaments

“Whether you believe you can or believe you can’t, you’re probably right.”  -Henry Ford

Wrestlers will have the opportunity to compete in weekly IKWF sanctioned wrestling tournaments held on Sundays. Each tournament will begin with an early morning weigh-in and consist of a series of matches. Some tournaments require travel and depending on how your child performs, may last throughout much of the day.

Transportaion to and from the tournament will be the responsibility of the parent.

***The Tournament Schedule will be updated as soon as the IKWF schedule of events is finalized.
